Agora Think Tanks

As Agora Think Tanks, we develop feasible and science-based policy proposals to advance climate neutrality in Germany, Europe, and internationally.

Our mission

With our team of 150 employees in Berlin, Brussels, Bangkok, and Beijing, we develop feasible and science-based policy proposals for decarbonising all sectors of the economy: power, transport, buildings, industry, and agriculture. Based on our deep expertise, we advise decision-makers and facilitate a productive exchange of ideas. Because no single institution can tackle the complexity of the transition from fossil fuels to renewables and to climate neutrality, Agora cultivates an intensive dialogue with stakeholders from politics, civil society, the economy, and science and is active in a global network of think tanks promoting the net-zero transition.

As bipartisan, non-profit organisations funded by foundations and public institutions, we are independent of corporate and political interests. Our exclusive mission is to serve the climate and the common good.

Agora Energiewende

We work on overarching questions of climate and energy policy, with a focus on a fossil-free power and buildings sector.

A carbon-free power sector is the basis for a climate-neutral economy. We develop feasible solutions for reliable power systems based on renewable energy and flexibility options. Further, we promote strategies for a fossil-free buildings sector – always keeping the big picture in mind: climate neutrality across all sectors.

Agora Energiewende

To enable climate neutrality before mid-century, we support the transformation of industry in the 2020s.

Low-carbon breakthrough technologies and policy frameworks are both equally important for a successful transformation. We develop pathways to a climate-neutral industry by promoting the best possible interplay of available solutions. With a smart policy mix, we can work towards resource and energy efficiency, circularity and the electrification of processes. Our work addresses the entire value chain – from climate-neutral production to green lead markets.

Agora Agriculture

We work on policies for the transformation to a more sustainable food, agriculture, and forestry sector.

Food, agriculture, and forestry are of great importance for climate neutrality, biodiversity conservation and other key sustainability goals at the national and international level. The scientific knowledge on how to achieve these goals is largely available. However, current agricultural, forestry, and food policies in Germany and the EU are not sufficiently aligned with the democratically negotiated sustainability goals. We want to change that.

Agora Verkehrswende

Our goal is the full decarbonisation of the transport sector – moving people and goods in sustainable ways.

Climate-neutral mobility needs two things: switching from fossil fuels to renewable energies and shifting to environmentally friendly modes of transport. Together they will make the Verkehrswende (transport transformation) a success.
